ACA repeal would drive deficit up more than $100 billion, leave 19 million uninsured

Written by Diane Archer

A new report from the Congressional Budget Office shows that if Congress were to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) effective January 1, 2016, deficits would grow between 2016 and 2025 by $137 billion and even more after that. In addition, the number of uninsured people under 65 would grow to 19 million in 2016 and to 22 or 23 million in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

The number of people with employer-based coverage would grow by 8 million. But the number of people with insurance in the individual market or through Medicare would shrink by about 30-32 million.
