Notwithstanding the reality that millions of Americans cannot afford their prescriptions, even with insurance, Alison Bell reports for BenefitsPro that Republicans and Democrats in Congress are focused on a bill that would make drug labels more transparent. Americans would know their drugs’ manufacturers and the facilities in which the drugs are manufactured.
Members of Congress in the House have introduced the CLEAR LABELS Act or the Consumer Labeling for Enhanced API Reporting and Legitimate Accountability for Base Entity Listings Act bill. Today, people don’t know where their drugs are manufactured. Some drug factories have been found to have serious safety issues. Instead of taking the drugs from these factories off the market, Americans will be able to decide for themselves whether to buy them. Of course, that still turns on whether they can afford the drugs.
Some say that, if enacted into law, the CLEAR LABELS ACT would allow employers to ensure that their employees’ drugs are manufactured in safe facilities.
